sound sculpture & performance created by Elizabeth Jigalin in collaboration with lighting designer/programmer Nick Barnett.

Commissioned by BackStage Music and premiered by Elizabeth Jigalin on 6 November 2022, BackStage Music’s: CLARITY ENGINE, curated by Lamorna Nightingale and Damian Barbeler @ Woodburn Creatives, Waterloo, Australia.

the city is an ear is a network of 88 ears hidden around Sydney. Whilst walking 40km across Sydney in two days, Elizabeth hid ears and collected beautifully noisy sounds from across the city to create a listening/light instrument embedded into the frame of a discarded piano skeleton.
